Goodyear Tyres wins partnership with bulk tanker operator Abbey Logistics

Goodyear Tyres has been appointed by bulk tanker operator Abbey Logistics Group, one of the UK’s leading bulk tanker logistics providers, to supply tyres for over 330 of its trucks and 500 tanker trailers. Following a competitive tender process and assessment by its fleet engineers, Abbey Logistics has chosen tyres from Goodyear’s KMAX and TreadMax ranges that can provide up to 30 per cent additional mileage per tyre.

The three-year agreement has been made to help reduce the significant cost of maintaining the Abbey Logistics fleet, now the UK’s largest bulk liquid and powder food transport provider, as well as the amount of vehicle downtime caused by tyre-related breakdowns and maintenance.

Abbey Logistics will also be trialling Goodyear’s innovative Tyre Pressuring Monitoring System, Proactive Solutions, whereby a sensor within the tyre allows operators to observe its pressure in real time. Using the system to maintain correct tyre pressures will benefit the company’s bottom-line by improving its vehicles’ tread-wear and fuel economy.

Hannah Jones, Head of Procurement, Abbey Logistics, commented: With a fleet as large as ours, keeping all of our tyres in good condition is a huge job. Likewise, with so many tyres, fitting the right product and carrying out proper maintenance can have a real impact on the cost of upkeep and replacements, as well as on fuel consumption. We’re hopeful that our new partnership with Goodyear will help to make maintaining our fleet more straightforward and cost-effective.”

Abbey Logistics will also benefit from the tyre service and breakdown assistance provided by Goodyear’s dedicated support network, TruckForce. Drivers will have access to rapid 24/7 roadside support from TruckForce in the event of a breakdown, minimising any unexpected downtime and keeping their vehicles on the road.

The company hopes that the partnership will even help to boost its productivity. Standardising the tyres fitted to the fleet’s vehicles will cut the amount of unnecessary administration that has previously made ordering and managing tyres a time-consuming process.

David Howe, General Manager – Commercial, Goodyear Tyres, commented: For a fleet as large as Abbey Logistics, we’re well aware of the importance of both choosing the right products and streamlining the maintenance process. We’re excited to be helping Abbey Logistics over the next three years to save time, effort and money; keeping their vehicles out of the garage and on the road.”
