The Transport Planner/Supervisor Role

The Transport Planner/Supervisor will be based from our office in Hartlepool, County Durham. The role will oversee the day-to-day planning of 15 dedicated liquid road tankers for a specific customer transporting non-hazardous bulk liquids. The Transport Planner/Supervisor will be the main point of contact for drivers, collection points and our customer and ensure the smooth and efficient running of the operation.

This is an exciting and autonomous role with a new customer, the successful applicant will report to Abbey’s operations manager based in Hull so we are looking for a highly motivated and driven individual who is comfortable working without the support of a wider team at the same location. Support will be provided through Abbey’s centralised teams and always on hand and members of our operations team will often base themselves from Seal Sands.


Key Responsibilities

  • Efficient and effective planning for 10 trucks and 15 tankers from multiple locations across the UK for delivery to Seal Sands
  • Manage queries and issues by telephone, and email from our customer, collection points and drivers.
  • Liaise with the wider Liquid Division Planning Team to ensure the highest standards of performance is always maintained.
  • Plan and implement initiatives to improve routing and efficiencies.
  • Maintain, create, and update spreadsheets and transport planning systems for performance and customer reports.
  • Report challenges, near misses and deal with issues or any queries that arise from the operation.
  • Build strong working relationships with Drivers, our customer and contacts at collection point locations
  • Ensure compliance with H&S regulations and Abbey’s own high standards of health and safety including vehicle compliance and site safety rules at customer site and collection locations


Transport Planner /Supervisor Experience 

We are looking for an experienced Transport Planner who can demonstrate experience in planning a fleet of Class 1 vehicles. In addition, the person we are looking for will have:

  • Strong people skills – you’ll be speaking with a variety of stakeholders on a day-to-day basis
  • IT literate, especially with Microsoft Office packages such as Word and Excel and be able to get quickly up to speed with Abbey’s own Transport Management System
  • Have excellent problem solving, analytical and organisational skills
  • Be able to make decisions under pressure, and to a tight timescale
  • Be able to communicate well at all levels
  • Have the ability to identify and suggest improvements to benefit both the Company and our customer.
  • Be highly motivated and comfortable working under own initiative.
