Transport and Operations Manager

 

DA8, Erith, Greater London

Salary/Rate: £50,000 – £55,000/annum Company pension, car allowance

 

Primary Purpose of Role:

To fulfil the role of statutory transport manager and to manage our transport operation distribution depot, delivering a safe, compliant, profitable and customer focussed operation that meets depot profit and loss targets.

 

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

Operator License Compliance – To fulfill the statutory responsibilities of the role of nominated transport manager.

Other – management duties

  • Weekly authorisation of Driver pays to payroll ensuring Drivers wages are correct and any timesheet errors are dealt with appropriately.
  • Manage driver compliance and performance issues including absence and disciplinary interviews.
  • Authorise Driver’s Holidays and ensure efficient and appropriate cover is available.
  • Report all accidents and near misses to the central compliance team.
  • Support Driver inductions and Driver onboarding and conduct probationary reviews.
  • Manage Driver resource levels with support from the HR.
  • Develop and deliver a ‘Best in Class’ Customer Service experience.
  • Manage Depot/Transport Operations to agreed budgets and targets.
  • Support the development of your team to meet the future needs of the business.
  • Develop a strong business relationship with customer(s).
  • Establish and drive team objectives in line with business measures.
  • Benchmark internal activities against competitors and develop best-practice ideas.
  • Keep abreast of relevant innovations and developments in the Logistics field.
  • Support business development projects to drive the Company’s continuous profitable growth.
  • Support or Lead new business implementations.
  • Build trust with external bodies as appropriate including Unions, Auditors and DVSA.

 

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Experienced Transport Logistics Manager, CPC National and International, with the tenacity, skills and ability to deliver great performance in role.
  • Full clean driving licence.
  • Health and safety qualification (desirable).
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; and the ability to command respect at all levels.
  • Ability to work autonomously yet able to collaborate as part of a wider team.
  • Experience of supporting and embedding the people elements associated with transformational change.
  • Excellent organisational and team building skills.
  • Trustworthy and understands the importance of confidentiality.
  • Champion of excellent safety and compliance standards.
  • Good knowledge of people management.
  • Experience of using Microsoft Office applications and vehicle planning programs.
  • Flexibility to travel and/or stay overnight to attend occasional management meetings with customers and colleagues.
