Commercial Sales Manager

Abbey Logistics – A UK and European, Industry Leading, food and non-food tanker Distribution Business are seeking to recruit the following;

Commercial Sales Manager


Up to £50,000 (includes car allowance and bonus)


  • Based in North West, with travel
  • Split responsibility between new business sales and retention and growth of existing customers within road tanker distribution.
  • Responsible for New Business Sales and increasing new business wins.  This can be from new clients to Abbey or existing clients and new business lanes.  All new business to be implemented and supported by an implementation SOP.  Responsible for Tenders and presenting to customers.  Responsible for Cost models to support new business
  • Responsible for the retention and growth of agreed customer accounts in the Liquids division focussing on building excellent relationships, aligning customer expectations, reporting all KPI’s and monitoring the health of our service levels across all operating depots, taking immediate action where necessary.   Evaluating and executing continuous improvement plans.

  • Recognising when to elevate customer issues to Directors


  • Driven to succeed and target driven
  • Ensuring communication with customer is right first time and regular
  • Development of SOP for implementation and existing customers – to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction
  • Ensure all your team customer challenges are dealt with in a timely and professional manner
  • Be the main daily contact in ALG for BULK liquid clients within your portfolio
  • Ensure all customers recognise the value ALG brings to their supply chain
  • Superb presentations for tenders and client review meetings

Effective and Efficient

  • Meet with customers on a regular basis (or via Teams) within your portfolio at the frequency established by the Liquids Sales Director
  • Raising your profile and promoting Liquids throughout Abbey
  • Focus on value adding growth, connectivity, bringing a can-do attitude towards rates and high service output
  • Ensure all customer feedback is processed through the relevant area of the operation to ensure any improvements required are completed and upheld in the shortest possible time
  • Provide rates to all allocated customers at the level required to meet financial returns
  • Always follow agreed processes at customer visits to ensure ALG gather the relevant information required – including demand forecasting / customer satisfaction / service challenges
  • A high level of attention to detail and the ability to analyse data and interpret the information effectively to continuously improve the department and/or team
  • Extensive knowledge of UK liquid market place and keeps self-up to date with marketplace developments
  • Develop your team and help to set SMART targets
  • Ensure the company Health and Safety standards are always adhered to


You will ideally have 5 years experience in the transport and logistics industry.
